Apprenticeships in London: where do we go from here?
The Mayor has set a target of 100,000 Apprenticeships in London by the end of 2012. However, expanding Apprenticeship numbers in the current economic climate of slow private sector jobs growth and shrinking public sector budgets presents significant challenges, not least finding employers willing to take on new Apprentices.
Helping ex-offenders to stay in education and employment
The most recent Observatory Practice and Research Forum meeting brought together organisations from the employment, skills and justice sectors to share effective ways of working with ex-offenders to secure sustained employment. Speakers included: Mike Jutsum, Kensington and Chelsea College, Tapan Baidya, A Fairer Chance and Nigel Austen, London Probation Trust.
