Making the link between health and work

The forum on health and work took place on 29 February.  The complete suite of presentations can be accessed here.

Over 400,000 people are unemployed in London. Unemployment contributes to poor health and work in general is associated with good health and well-being (Marmot Review, 2011).

Changes in welfare reform have increased the need for an integrated approach to health and employment, recognising that to reduce unemployment in London, we need to support people with long term health conditions make a successful transition to work and employers to effectively support people with health conditions stay in work.

The London Skills and Employment Observatory in partnership with the London, Health, Work and Wellbeing programme organised this forum and brought together the following programme:

  • UCL Institute of Health Equity presented on the relationship between health and work;
  • Sandra Neylon, Director Neylon Health presented on Occupational Health at Tate and Lyle;
  • The Bromley by Bow Centre presented on supporting effective return to work.

The next practice and research forum will be held after the Mayoral elections in May and will focus on the future of adult careers guidance in London.  More details about this event will be available here shortly.  In the meantime, if you are interested in reserving an early place at this event, please contact Ellie Roberts by email at ellie.roberts@cesi.org.uk
