Key facts and figures on the Creative Media Industries in London, Skillset
  • In total, a third (35%) of the UK's Creative Media workforce operates in the capital, equating to 141,900 people, and there are around 4,100 companies. 
  • A fifth of the overall workforce is freelance but this can vary up to, for example, 91% in film production.
  • UK Trade & Investment estimates that 1 in 5 of all new jobs in London are in the Creative Industries; it is the second largest industry after the business services sector. (Note: Data are based on official data sources and therefore exclude Facilities, Interactive Content Design, Content for Computer Games and some freelancers.)
  • Two fifths (38%) of the workforce is female and 11% is from a Black, Asian or minority ethnic (BAME) background.
  • Like the rest of the UK’s Creative Media Industries, the workforce is young and 41% is aged under 35 years.
